Male Breast Surgery (Gynecomastia)
Overdeveloped or enlarged male breasts is also known as gynecomastia. This condition is common in men of any age and may be the result of heredity, hormonal changes, diseases, or certain drug use (marijuana, steroids). It is characterized by excess localized fat and/or glandular tissue and may be present in one or both breasts. Gynecomastia may impair your self confidence, lead to emotional discomfort, and have you avoiding certain physical activities including intimacy.
Gynecomastia surgery is usually performed in the comforts of our operative suite and takes 2 to 3 hours. Options include liposuction and/or surgical removal of the excessive breast tissue and fat. Laser assisted liposuction using SlimLipo and tiny incisions is now being offered to patients who would typically need surgical removal. Depending on the patient, anesthesia requirement s may be local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia. The results are permanent and include a firmer, flatter, and more contoured chest.
